Coastal Planning Center

The Coastal Policy Center (CPC) of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is a multidisciplinary group comprised of planners, educators and scientists that advises a range of agencies on sustainable development. In 2002, Alabama Governor Don Siegelman approved an agreement between the Mobile Bay National Estuary Program (MBNEP), the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, and the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) that has significantly improved the, management, protection and enhancement of Alabama’s coastal resources.

Services that the CPC provides

  • Education / outreach to identify public policy issues, and develop consensus-built solutions and conflict resolutions for environmental resources protection
  • Review and analysis of the assessments of specific sites and evaluation of impacts from proposed activities
  • Design and monitoring of created wetlands and restoration of wetlands and other habitats
  • Development of resource management strategies which will foster the wise stewardship of diminishing natural resources
  • Preparation of grant proposals for the acquisition of significant coastal resources and design of amenities
  • Preparation of coastal public access plans and designs
  • Provide accurate information about sustainable resources
