Discovery Hall Programs frequently offers internship opportunities for students to assist and learn through their marine science-based field trip classes and summer camp programs. DHP will be looking for applicants to fill their annual summer undergraduate intern position in spring 2017. Other internship opportunities are occassionally available with Discovery Hall Programs. These include academic year or summer internships for high school students, and internships of varying lengths for college undergraduate and graduate students. Details will be posted here as they become available.

2017 Summer Undergraduate Internship

June 2 - August 4, 2017
Application Form

The Discovery Hall Programs at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab has one (1) summer internship available for an undergraduate (junior, senior, or recent graduate) from minority groups currently under-represented in marine science and environmental education.

Interns assist the DHP Marine Educators in our many summer programs for K-12 students, teachers and the public. Interns work with the educators assisting in all aspects of logistics, planning, classroom prep, and teaching.  In addition, there will be an opportunity for the intern to teach in outreach programs off campus.  This is a wonderful opportunity for science education majors to learn more about environmental education, marine science, and the Gulf coast while living at the beach!

The successful candidate should be interested in marine science and environmental education and have completed a minimum of one year of biology or education. Interns live in the Sea Lab dorms, and are expected to work some nights and weekends. Interns should be comfortable in the water and have a valid US drivers license. Interns should be capable of handling some strenous physical activity, as well as high heat and humidity since many activities take place outside.

Each internship includes a stipend ($3500), as well as room and board.

To apply, please submit a cover letter, intern application, and current student transcripts to Sara Johnson, or mail to:
