A M.S. student position is available through the joint Food and Drug Administration/Dauphin Island Sea Lab fellowship program. The project will investigate the environmental factors affecting microbial communities in Mobile Bay at the terminus of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta (“America’s Amazon’), with a specific interest in harmful algal and Vibrio species and their interactions in the water column or in shellfish. Local field work is expected.
Students will enroll in the Department of Marine Sciences at the University of South Alabama and matriculate January 2019.
Competitive applicants should have a B.S. in biology, chemistry, marine science, or a related field, and experience in molecular biology and bioinformatics is preferred. The position includes stipend support, along with funds for supplies, consumables, and approved travel.
Work will be conducted on Dauphin Island (AL) at the US Food and Drug Administration & Dauphin Island Sea Lab facilities.
Only United States citizens or permanent residents are eligible to apply.
Application deadline is August 27, 2018. The recipient will need to inform the project supervisors of acceptance within 1 week of receiving the offer. Upon selection, the successful applicant will work with the project supervisors to develop a brief 2-page project summary and formally apply to the University of South Alabama Graduate School.
